PNEU101: Spiritual Warfare & the Spirit

PNEU101 is a 3-credit course in the Year 1 program at Sozo Bible College.

12-Week Course Outline

1. Week 1 Who Is the Holy Spirit?

   Before any discussion of warfare or gifts, students ground themselves in the Holy Spirit's person — fully God, not a force or feeling. We study His names, His work in creation, in the prophets, in Christ's own ministry, and His promised coming at Pentecost (John 14-16, Acts 1-2).

2. Week 2 Baptism in the Holy Spirit

   Examining the biblical pattern of being filled with and empowered by the Spirit, distinct from salvation itself. Students consider the evidence, purpose, and ongoing necessity of being continually filled (Ephesians 5:18), not a one-time event but an ongoing posture.

3. Week 3 The Believer's Identity and Authority in Christ

   Spiritual warfare begins with knowing who you are, not just what you're fighting. This week roots students in their position in Christ (Ephesians 1-2, Colossians 1) as the foundation all spiritual authority rests on.

4. Week 4 Understanding the Enemy Without Obsession

   A sober, biblically restrained look at the nature of the enemy's work — deception, accusation, temptation — without sensationalism. Students learn to recognize spiritual opposition without becoming fearfully fixated on it (2 Corinthians 2:11).

5. Week 5 The Armor of God

   A practical, weekly-applicable study of Ephesians 6:10-18 — truth, righteousness, peace, faith, salvation, the Word, and prayer as the believer's daily equipping, not abstract theology.

6. Week 6 Discernment: Testing the Spirits

   Students learn to distinguish the genuine move of the Spirit from deception or human manipulation (1 John 4:1), with practical markers: fruit, doctrine, and confirmation through community and Scripture.

7. Week 7 The Gifts of the Spirit

   A survey of 1 Corinthians 12-14 — the gifts given for the building up of the body, not personal status. Students examine each gift's purpose and the necessity of love as the governing context for their use.

8. Week 8 The Fruit of the Spirit as the Proof of Power

   Power without character is dangerous. This week roots students in Galatians 5:22-23 as the non-negotiable evidence of a Spirit-filled life — gifts and fruit must grow together, never substitute for one another.

9. Week 9 Deliverance Ministry: Foundations and Caution

   An introduction to biblical deliverance ministry — its basis in Christ's own example, the necessity of humility and accountability, and clear cautions against excess, spectacle, or unaccountable practice.

10. Week 10 Inner Healing and Emotional Wholeness

    Spiritual warfare is not only confrontation — it includes the slow, Spirit-led healing of wounds, shame, and broken places within a person. This week roots warfare ministry in genuine pastoral care, not performance.

11. Week 11 Praying With Authority

    A practical week on intercessory prayer as warfare — students study biblical models of prayer that confronts darkness and contend for breakthrough, individually and corporately.

12. Week 12 A Sustainable Rule of Spirit-Filled Life

    Synthesizing the course into a livable daily and weekly rhythm: how a minister stays filled, stays accountable, and avoids both burnout and presumption over a lifetime of ministry.
