THEO201: The New Man
Year 1 • 3 Credits • Weekly Syllabus
THEO201 is a 3-credit course in the Year 1 program at Sozo Bible College.
12-Week Course Outline
-
Week 1 The Two Adams — Two Archetypes, Two Humanities
Every human being is running one of two source codes. This week establishes the foundational framework the entire course builds on.
-
Week 2 The Corrupted Code — What the Fall Actually Did
Before we can understand what the new birth replaces, we must understand precisely what the fall corrupted.
-
Week 3 The Cross — Death of the Old Man
The cross is not primarily a moral transaction (though it is that). It is a complete system replacement.
-
Week 4 The New Birth — Entering the Second Adam's Lineage
If the First Adam is the archetype of the old humanity, and the cross is the death of that old man, the new birth is the moment a person switches lineage — entering the Second Adam's family by genuine regeneration.
-
Week 5 The Heart as Throne Room — What You Believe Shapes Everything
Proverbs 4:23 — 'Keep your heart with all diligence, for out of it spring the issues of life.' The heart is not a feeling. It is the governing centre — the throne room from which everything else in a person's life is issued.
-
Week 6 The Power of the Tongue — Death and Life
Proverbs 18:21 — 'Death and life are in the power of the tongue.' This is not metaphor. It is principle — one of the most consequential and underestimated realities in the believer's life.
-
Week 7 Believe and Confess — The Mechanism of Faith
Romans 10:9-10 established how salvation is entered — believe in the heart, confess with the mouth. This week explores how this same mechanism operates throughout the entire Christian life for receiving the promises of God.
-
Week 8 Obedience Over Sacrifice — What God Actually Wants
1 Samuel 15:22 — 'To obey is better than sacrifice, and to hearken than the fat of rams.' This is one of the most important verses in Scripture for understanding the difference between religion and genuine relationship with God.
-
Week 9 Ceasing from Self-Works — The Yielded, Resting Life
Hebrews 4:10 — 'He who has entered His rest has himself also ceased from his works as God did from His.' This verse sits at the centre of everything this course is building toward, and it is widely misunderstood.
-
Week 10 Excellence as Divine Expression — Not My Works But His Through Me
Galatians 2:20 — 'I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me.'
-
Week 11 Transformation Into the Image — Glory to Glory
2 Corinthians 3:18 — 'we all, with unveiled face, beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, just as by the Spirit of the Lord.'
-
Week 12 Living as the New Man — The Pattern Made Practical
Colossians 3 is the practical application of everything this course has covered. Paul opens with the theological ground (verses 1-4 — you are risen with Christ, your life is hidden in God) and then moves directly to practical daily instruction from that ground.
Full lesson content, readings, reflection assignments, and quizzes for each week are available once you are enrolled and logged in.
