“The heaviest thing I can carry is a grudge. The quality of my life depends on the quality of my thoughts. He considers not what is possible, but what is real; he gives might the preference over right. Time proves each reply to have been a mere approximation to the truth–tolerable chiefly on account of the ignorance of those by whom it was accepted, and wholly intolerable when tested by the larger knowledge of their successors.who are unable to follow in the well-worn and comfortable track of their forefathers and contemporaries, and unmindful of thorns and stumbling-blocks, strike out into paths of their own. Most of us, shrinking from the difficulties and dangers which beset the seeker after original answers to these riddles, are contented to ignore them altogether, or to smother the investigating spirit under the feather-bed of respected and respectable tradition. “When work and family becomes too much, we cut the family and just work,” The invasion of the Church by the world is a menace to the extension of Christ’s Kingdom. In all ages conformity to the world by Christians has resulted in lack of spiritual life and a consequent lack of spiritual vision and enterprise. A secularised or self-centred Church can never evangelise the world.”
